In my previous blog, I discussed the motivation behind launching Broccoli Management Channel. In the last decade, there has been a change in focus of public policy. Focus has shifted to last man and last mile in the chain. The policies are about creating access to all in whatsoever form be it road, electricity, network connectivity, education, fund & food.
This raises a question in mind that Shouldn’t everyone have access to quality management education ?
Currently, only those who can afford to pay have access to good business schools. We need to find a way to make management education more accessible to everyone till last man and mile in the country.
There are more points which have gone beneath seeding the Broccoli Management Channel. Let’s talk few of them.
Does Management Education Still Hold the Same Relevance?
The pace of change in the world is so rapid that everyone needs to keep upskilling throughout their careers. This means that we can expect to have 3-4 different career cycles in our working lives. In the past, a two-year MBA program made sense because it led to long-term employment with one company. However, the current job market is more dynamic, and many people are starting their own businesses or changing careers several times. In this environment, a two-year MBA program can be a hindrance to one’s career goals.
There is a Pressing Business Need for Broccoli Management Channel.
The management education industry is a multi-billion dollar business. However, there is a growing gap between the needs of businesses and the skills of graduates. Broccoli Management Channel will help to bridge this gap by providing affordable, relevant, and accessible management education to everyone. We will focus on challenges of real life as against reel life.
I Wish I Had Known This 20 Years Ago.
There are many things that I wish I had learned earlier in my career. I believe that there should be a way to encapsulate these learnings and make them available to professionals earlier in their lives. For e.g we all learn something new from each of our boss we have in our career irrespective of the fact they were good or not. Bosses are the real B school for everyone.
B-school Curriculums Are Too Focused on Western Thinking.
Unfortunately, the pride point of our best of B schools comes from their focus on international orientation. No wonder, their majority of resources be it case study, examples still come from Harvard and likes. While world recognises India not only as a biggest talent pool but also as a largest market for product and services. Shouldn’t the new study materiel be around our own realities?
There are many successful Indian entrepreneurs, leaders and thinkers who have valuable insights to share. Modi and Yogi have taught the world the management of scale at speed in big projects , the power of Social media in all spheres of governance, changing the brand India from talent pool to biggest market. The work done by S.Gurumurthy, Rajiv Malhotra, Subramanian Swami alone has capacity to create 50% of B School curriculum if Relevance was the criterion. Broccoli Management Channel will highlight these insights and make them accessible to a wider audience.
Conclusion
I believe that Broccoli Management Channel has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about management education. I am excited to see what the future holds for this platform. What if Harvard and IIMs refuse to reach to all, Broccoli would reach in a way which is more effective and not discriminatory also.
